  • What does 'Manu Forti' mean?
It is Latin for 'strong hands'

  • How often should I get a massage?
It really depends on your personal needs.  During your intake of information on your first appointment, you and your therapist should establish a treatment plan that is best suited for you.

  • What is the difference between Swedish and Deep tissue massage?
Swedish massage is the classic of western style massage!  It focuses on your total body and mind relaxation using gentle, flowing movements.  It also improves muscle tone, stimulates circulation and relieves tension.

Deep tissue massage is a more technical and sometimes more aggressive style of massage.  It focuses on relieving aches and pains in certain muscles.  Working from superficial to deeper muscles, the therapist releases restricted areas that you might know as 'knots'.

  • What is a Neuromuscular therapy treatment?
NMT is a specific treatment conducted by a  trained and certified Neuromuscular therapist.  It is an advanced system of soft tissue manipulation, which works to alleviate referral pain caused by trigger points.  It is an effective treatment in the release of spasm and relieving discomfort from TMJ disorder, migraines, tension head aches or other musculoskeletal conditions such as back pain and lower limb inequality.  Your NMT therapist will locate the taut bands within the muscle fibers known as Trigger points and eliminate them.

  • Will the deep tissue or NMT treatments hurt?
My goal IS NOT to hurt you but rather to help your body to heal.  Although some treatments are not as relaxing as others, I always work within each client's pressure tolerance called 'therapeutic pressure'.  Because each person has a different tolerance level, I stongly encourage the client during the session to let me know when I have reached this therapeutic level of pressure.

  • What is Reiki?
Translated to English, Reiki means 'Universal Life Force Energy'.  It is a Japanese practice that dates back to the early 1900's.  Reiki is based on the premise that one's health is directly related to one's energy.  Throught this practice, the energy is balanced, providing optimal support for the body's natural ability to heal. Because Reiki is an uninvasive technique, it is often used immediately after injuries or surgeries to help the body repair or heal.  Reiki is a treatment in itself or can be combined with any massage!

  • What is ear candling?
Ear candling is an age-old remedy that many nations have used.  From the ancient Egyptians employing reeds to Native Americans using cornhusk dipped in beeswax to make hollow candles it was originally used for purification prior to a ritual or initiation.  Candling was used to assist in opening the body's spiritual centers, thus cleaning and cleansing the spiritual body throught the physical.  Now, it is also used as a natural way to remove ear wax, improve hearing, sinus problems, sore throat, ear ache, swimmer's ear, allergies, tinnitus (ringing in the ear), and even some chronic headaches.

  • What happens during an ear candling session?
You will be comfortably positioned on the massage table. The candle is inserted through a plate and the therapist will also place 2 towels on top of your hair for added protection (and your peace of mind). The candle is then gently placed into the ear, held in place by the therapist and lit.  There is no discomfort to the person receiving this treatment. While the therapist gently massages the muscles around your ear and neck, old ear wax and noxious toxins are drawn up into the candle.  The low flame of the burning candle creates a slow vacuum which softens and pulls the old wax into the base of the candle. You will 'hear' and feel results immediately!

  • What is an Integrative therapeutic massage?
The name for this treatment was chosen because it is a combination of Swedish, myofascial release and range of motion.  It is based on each individual and varies with each session to address your specific areas of tension or discomfort. We chose to call it Integrative therapeutic massage but you could also call it personalized therapeutic massage.
